Canine Infectious Respiratory Disease Complex (CIRDC)
CIRDC, formerly known as kennel cough, is like the common cold and flu in humans—a common issue for social dogs that is usually mild and manageable. Although we require vaccinations for all visiting dogs, no vaccine completely prevents exposure to potential germs. Like the human flu vaccine, these vaccinations help reduce the severity of signs should exposure occur.
To help keep our community safe and healthy, dogs showing signs of illness—such as coughing, sneezing, or a runny nose—must stay home until they’ve fully recovered. Thank you for helping us care for all our beloved pets!
While occasional exposure is a natural risk in social environments, being informed, proactive, and respectful of others ensures the well-being of all pets in our facility.
Vaccination Requirements
Vaccination records are required before the check-in date or daycare stay to verify that everything is correct and up to date.
Required Vaccinations
- Distemper/Parvo (DAPP)*
- Bordetella**
* Puppies may be boarded following their second Distemper/Parvo vaccination.
Facts about Bordetella
Otherwise known as Kennel Cough, Bordetella is an airborne upper respiratory infection similar to the common cold in humans. There are numerous strains of this disease and due to its airborne qualities, even the most current vaccination does not 100% protect your pet against them all.
Our strict sanitization policy includes daily disinfection of our Daycare areas, playground equipment, and toys with non-toxic and chemical-free disinfectants proven to kill Bordetella.
After each use, our staff washes all blankets and bedding, and kennels are disinfected.
If bordetella is going around in Penticton (like cold season) we will put notices up so you can decide whether or not you want to keep your dog(s) home during that time.
** Bordetella is optional. It is recommended for puppies, senior dogs or any dog with a compromised immune system.
